Why is it important to be physically fit and how can we stay fit?
Fifth Grade Week 4 |
April 13-17
Lesson 1
Read the directions below. This week we are going to perform different locomotor patterns. Today you will be reviewing running, skipping, hopping, jumping, galloping, side-stepping, and leaping.
1. Practice these skills along with the video below. 2. Click the red button Kahoot! and complete the challenges. 3. Submit your answer to the blog question. Skill Cues Running Back straight, head up looking forward Shoulders square, hands relaxed Drive leg forward with high knee, land on the ball of foot (Remember good posture reduces your chances of injury and fatigue) Skipping Step Hop Hopping Push off with your toes and bend your knee to lift into the air. Take off one foot, land on same foot. Jumping 2 feet to 2 feet Swing arms Land with legs bent to absorb impact (A jump begins in the ready position. Do you remember which sports/activities use the ready position?) Gallop Step Slide Forward, Same lead foot Side Step (Slide, Shuffle) Step Slide Sideways, Same lead foot (This skill is used for quick offensive moves and defense. Make sure to keep your knees bent as you move.) Leap Jump pushing off from 1 foot and land on the other foot (Leaps usually come from a run and return to a run. An example would be hurdles.) Safety
Wear sneakers and comfortable clothing. Make sure that you have enough room to move without touching anything/anyone and that you are following your family home rules.
Tips to Modify the Exercises Change intensity (decrease the force or speed). Reduce the amount of time for each activity. By the end of these lessons students should be able to: Demonstrate mature patterns of locomotor skills in dynamic small- sided practice tasks. S1.E1.5a Engage actively in a moderate aerobic activity independently. S3.E2.5 |
Lesson 2
Read the directions below. This week we are going to practice performing different locomotor patterns. Today you will use these skills in an activity that you enjoy.
1. Select an activity/sport that you enjoy that incorporates the skills you have practiced and play that game. Think about your movement and posture to improve your skill. 2. Watch the video of an obstacle course made by a PSS student. Create your own obstacle course. Include multiple locomotor patterns. If you are able, email a picture or video to [email protected]. Wear sneakers and comfortable clothing. Make sure that you are walking only where you are allowed to be following your family rules.
Tips to Modify the Exercises If you have to be inside and/or the weather doesn't allow you to go out, make sure your indoor version is safe and follows your family rules. By the end of these lessons students should be able to: Demonstrate mature patterns of locomotor skills in dynamic small- sided practice tasks.
